Southern Ute Agency
Elevation: 8940+
Status: Standing
Year Built: ?
Structure type: Glass-enclosed cab supported by four steel legs, about 50 feet high.
Google MapAccording to David Lorenz (May 2009), there is an old run-down cabin nearby. The lookout still has an outside ladder part way up, and the inside stairwell was probably added in the 1960's.
The following information is from a National Geodetic Data Sheet:
"DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 195(OSR) THE STATION IS THE TOP-CENTER OF THE LOOKOUT TOWER. IT IS ON THE NORTHWEST EDGE OF ARCHULETA MESA, ABOUT 2 MILES WEST-SOUTHWEST OF TRIANGLE STATION ARCH 1936. DUE TO HIGH TIMBER IT WAS NOT VISIBLE FROM THIS STATION."
